Will A.I. Dominate the production industry?

bionic hand and human hand finger pointing

With AI becoming increasingly advanced, many people are starting to wonder: how will it affect everyday workers?

Due to the cost-of-living crisis in the UK, thousands of people are desperately searching for jobs to sustain their family’s needs. AI is famous for its speed and reliability, but not only will it takeover manual labour, it will lower the already shocking wages leaving ‘300 million people without a stable income’, (BBC).

The development of AI has and will cause much controversy within the government’s ethical decisions on how run the industry. “We want to make sure that AI is complementing the way we work in the UK, not disrupting it – making our jobs better, rather than taking them away,” Technology Secretary Michelle Donelan told the Sun. This proves the government are still unsure about the future of AI and its uses with the working class.

AI may be an issue in the future, this has been proven by a study that stated that the industry was getting rid of jobs faster they are being generated, dramatically changing the lives of future generations. Famous author Isaac Asimov created his own laws of AI, that sum up that the creation of AI is only for the benefit of humans: “The Three Laws of Robotics:

1: A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm;

2: A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law;

3: A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law;

― Isaac Asimov, I, Robot

This idea of the three laws addresses the potential dangers that could arise. AI could cause a large change within the world, resulting in a harsher economy and putting many people into extreme poverty.

The future of AI is certainly a difficult one to predict but if used correctly, could change the world for the better.

  1. I think you’ve captured the complexities of AI well, I didn’t know about ‘the three laws of robotics’, which make so much sense.
